Can You Return or Change a Rent2Buy Van Early?

Yes. A Rent2Buy customer may return the vehicle during the agreement or ask to change to another available vehicle.

Different rules apply depending on whether the customer is returning the van and walking away, changing it during the first 12 months, or changing it after the first 12 months.

Can You Return the Van and End the Agreement?

Yes.

A customer may return the vehicle during the agreement, provided:

• The required notice is given

• The account is fully up to date

• The vehicle is returned to the Rent2Buy site

• Any outstanding amounts, excess mileage or chargeable damage are dealt with

The usual notice period is 14 days.

The company retains discretion over the exact return arrangements, so the customer should contact the office before making plans.

Where Must the Vehicle Be Returned?

All vehicle returns take place at the Vansco site in Cadnam, near Southampton.

Customers must return the vehicle themselves.

Rent2Buy Vans does not provide a collection service for returned vehicles.

The return date and time should be agreed with the office in advance.

Can You Change to Another Vehicle?

Yes.

A customer may request a different Rent2Buy vehicle, subject to account status, affordability, approval and available stock.

The financial treatment depends on how long the original agreement has been running.

Changing a Van Within the First 12 Months

A customer may change vehicles during the first 12 months, but the replacement is treated as a completely new agreement.

This means:

• A new Rent2Buy agreement is required

• A new initial rental is payable

• The replacement must be chosen from currently available Rent2Buy stock

• Updated affordability information may be requested

• The original vehicle must be returned to the site

• All new paperwork is signed on site

Because a fresh initial rental is required, many customers may prefer to wait until the original agreement has passed 12 months.

Changing a Van After 12 Months

After the customer has had the original vehicle for at least 12 months, they may be considered for an exchange to another available Rent2Buy vehicle.

Where approved:

• The original vehicle is returned on site

• A new agreement is created for the replacement

• The original initial rental may be rolled over into the new agreement

• Regular rental payments already made are not refunded

• Updated proof of affordability may be requested

• All contracts and paperwork are completed on site

The customer’s account should be up to date.

A particular replacement vehicle cannot be guaranteed and remains subject to current stock.

Are Previous Monthly Payments Transferred?

No.

Regular rental payments already made are not refunded or transferred.

They were hire charges for the customer’s use of the original vehicle during that agreement.

After 12 months, the original initial rental may be rolled over into the replacement agreement where the change is approved.

Within the first 12 months, a new initial rental is payable.

Is Another Full Application Required?

A completely new application is not normally required for a change after 12 months.

However, Rent2Buy Vans may request:

• Updated bank statements

• Further proof of affordability

• Current customer information

• Confirmation that the account is up to date

A change within the first 12 months is treated as a new agreement and includes a new initial rental.

Does the Returned Van Need to Be Inspected?

Yes.

The vehicle’s condition, mileage and supplied equipment may be checked when it is returned.

Fair wear and tear is considered differently from damage or neglect.

Possible return charges may include:

• Outstanding rental payments

• Excess mileage

• Windscreen damage

• Unsafe or illegal tyres

• Interior damage

• Damaged or missing ply lining

• Chargeable bodywork damage

• Missing supplied racking, roof racks or canopies

• Excessive damage requiring an insurance claim or repair quotation

How Is Excess Mileage Charged?

The Rent2Buy mileage allowance is 3,000 miles per month.

Excess mileage is charged at:

20p plus VAT per additional mile

Excess mileage is normally billed monthly.

Any outstanding mileage position may also be reviewed when the vehicle is returned or changed.

Excess-mileage charges paid during the agreement are deducted from the final payment amount where the customer completes the original agreement. This does not mean that unpaid excess mileage is waived when a van is returned early.

What Damage May Be Charged?

Examples of chargeable damage include:

Windscreen

Cracks larger than a 20p coin or a chip on the driver’s side may be invoiced at the cost of replacing the windscreen.

Tyres

Tyres may be charged where they:

• Are below the legal tread limit of 1.6 mm

• Have bulges

• Have cuts

• Are otherwise unroadworthy

Interior

The customer may be charged for:

• Cigarette burns

• Holes in seats

• Tar, paint or plaster that cannot be removed by valeting

• Other damage requiring repair or replacement

Ply Lining

Where supplied ply lining is returned in an unusable condition, the customer may be charged for replacement.

Damage to the exposed interior metal may also be charged.

Bodywork

Minor marks that can be machine polished and small dents or scratches may be treated as fair wear and tear.

Larger chargeable dents or scratches may be invoiced at £200 plus VAT per affected body panel.

Excessive damage may need to be claimed through the customer’s insurer or assessed through a repair quotation.

Racking, Roof Racks and Canopies

Any racking, roof racks or canopies supplied with the vehicle must be returned with it.

Where these have been removed or are missing, the customer may be charged for replacement.

What Happens on the Day of a Vehicle Swap?

Vehicle swaps take place on site.

The process may include:

• Returning and inspecting the original vehicle

• Recording the mileage

• Reviewing any outstanding charges

• Confirming proof of fully comprehensive insurance for the replacement

• Signing the new agreement

• Completing the contract paperwork

• Paying any required new initial rental or balance

• Collecting the replacement vehicle

Temporary or day insurance is not accepted.

A full 12-month fully comprehensive insurance policy is required.
